Biophilic Design
When it comes to employee wellbeing, the benefits of having natural light and open spaces within a workplace are well understood and form part of any good office design. Now, we are also seeing the results of research into the incorporation of natural elements and green imagery into interior spaces. As well as looking fantastic in your office, your plants (or even pictures of plants) are actually having a positive impact on the psychological and physical wellbeing of your staff.
The concept is called ‘biophilic design’ and the latest research findings from the Human Spaces Report shows that workers who are based in biophilic friendly environments have:
- Higher Levels of Wellbeing
- Increased Productivity
- Increased Creativity
- Reduced Anxiety and Stress
Moreover, the report claims there are proven links between work environments exhibiting biophilic design and lower staff turnover and sickness absence rates.
